The other day I met a new person, and we got chatting. There was the usual small talk, and then he said something like, “So besides being a mom, your workouts, dancing and life coaching, what do you do for fun?”
I paused, thought for a second, and then answered, “Everything I do in my life is fun.”
There isn’t one thing in my life right now that I don’t want to be doing. It helps that the pandemic has eliminated a lot of things that probably felt like obligations. But I can honestly say that I feel ZERO desire to escape my life.
Build a life you don’t feel like you have to escape from.
I want what I have. All of it. I want the family I have. I want the things I spend my time on. I want the issues that we face. There’s good and bad and I’m here for all of it. Anything that I want to have beyond this is NOT because I’m missing or lacking something in my life. You can have what you have and also dream of more, but not because you think it’s going to fill you up or that THERE is going to be better than HERE.
If you are unsatisfied here, you will be unsatisfied there. There will always be good parts and bad parts. It’s 50/50 either way. You’re just changing one set of problems for another set of problems. The problems don’t go away. They just change form. But if you can welcome all of it, be here for all of it, you get to enjoy more of life as a whole because you don’t have to chase some place that’s going to be magically problem free.
This is the perfect time to do some life and self-examination. Everything that you have and do in your life right now you are actively CHOOSING. If you aren’t changing it, you are choosing it. I’m just suggesting you do it on purpose.
